Welsh is a mandatory element of Curriculum for Wales which spans the 3 – 16 learning continuum. The Languages, Literacy and Communication (LLC) Area of Learning and Experience (Area) addresses fundamental aspects of human communication. It aims to support learning across the whole curriculum and to enable learners to gain knowledge and skills in Welsh, English and international languages as well as in literature. Settings and schools need to plan to ensure all learners make appropriate progress in Welsh, in English and in international languages. The concept of a language learning continuum underlies progression in LLC. Learners will progress from having little or no language skills and knowledge towards proficiency in the languages they learn at school.
