Welcome Letter

Dear Pupils, Parents and Caregivers,

I hope you all had a relaxing and restful summer break and have returned to school to start your first year of school with enthusiasm and ready for bucket loads of fun! We will be working with you to ensure your child is happy, settled and continuing good progress in their learning.

Here is some information that you may find helpful for your child's return to school:

Start/finish times:

  • Our classroom doors will open at 8.50 AM, the door will usually open a little earlier when there is inclement weather..
  • Our school day will end at 3:30 PM.
  • Arrival and dismissal will continue from the main school yard.
  • To ensure all children are collected safely from school we ask that you wait in the yard and make yourselves known to the class teacher when your child is at the school door ready to be collected.
It makes it far easier for us if you are able to form a line at the Reception gate and let us know who you are here to pick up. If anyone unfamiliar is going to be collecting your child, could you please let us know beforehand by informing the School Office. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
  • Should your child be attending PlayWorks after school club, they will be collected from the school hall to head over the the Nursery/PlayWorks building.

The School Day:

  • As stated in the New Parent Meeting at the end of the last academic year, all pupils are asked to bring in a Book Bag (no rucksacks), a coat, if necessary, an empty water bottle and a fruit snack. All items must be labelled with your child's name. Pupils will put their water bottles and fruit in designated baskets, they will Book Bags in their tray and hang coats on their pegs.
  • Pupils will then self register and sit on the carpet with their friends ready to start the day.
  • Children will then be registered and start their day of learning and fun!
  • Break time will be at 10.30 AM – 11:00 AM. This is when they will have their fruit snack. School will only allow fresh fruit as a snack as in line with Welsh Government guidelines. (No dried fruit or savoury snacks.)
  • Lunch time is 12:00 PM – 13:00 PM in the kitchen pod and then out to play. Please ensure lunches are booked through ParentPay and any packed lunches are free from any nuts. As stated earlier we are a nut-free school – this includes ‘kinder’ products as well as ‘breakfast bar’ type snacks that include nuts.
  • Milk will be provided in the afternoon. If your child does not drink milk, or prefers water they will have a water break instead.

In the Classroom

  • P.E. will be on a Tuesday and Friday for the Autumn term. (This may change in the Spring term but we shall inform you before any changes occur)
  • Arrive at school in your PE kit on a Monday and Tuesday. Your child will need to wear black or royal blue shorts or black joggers/leggings, a House Colour T-Shirt (or plain one in their house colour), and trainers. When possible, PE will be outdoors, so please ensure PE kit is weather appropriate.
  • Every other Tuesday, Miss Bailey will be in class to cover Miss Mac’s PPA. Miss Bailey covers Health and Wellbeing with the children and provides a wealth of lovely activities with the class.
  • On a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon Mrs Jones will take groups to practise Welsh with the children.
  • A gallery space to show off the children working together or trips will be on our Class Pages. Make sure you keep checking to see what the children are learning about and how much fun they are having.
  • Should you have chosen your child not to be included in photographs to be uploaded online, please don’t be disappointed if they have their face covered/not included. Photographs are ONLY shared on our class pages. As a school we no longer use X or any other form of social media. Should you wish to change your mind regarding your child's photograph permission, please let the office know.
  • Please ensure all uniform, bottles, snack pots and belongings are labelled with your child’s name so it can be returned if lost. If in doubt - label it!

If you have any concerns or queries, please don't hesitate to ask us on the door or email/ring the school office.

Kind regards,

Miss Mac and the Dosbarth Derbyn Team

(Mrs Goddard, Mrs Hughes, Mrs Jones and Miss Bailey)
