Welcome Letter

Dear Pupils, Parents and Caregivers,

I hope you all had a lovely and restful Easter break and that the children are returning to school refreshed, happy and ready for a busy and exciting Summer Term ahead! We are really looking forward to welcoming everyone back and continuing to support your child to feel settled, confident and to make great progress in their learning.

Here is some helpful information for the term ahead:

Start and finish times:

  • Our classroom doors will open at 8:50am (slightly earlier in poor weather).
  • The school day will end at 3:30pm.
  • Arrival and dismissal will continue from the main school yard.

To ensure all children are collected safely, please wait in the yard and make yourselves known to the class teacher when your child comes to the door.

Forming a line by the Reception gate really helps us to dismiss the children safely and efficiently. If someone different will be collecting your child, please inform the school office in advance. Thank you for your continued support with this.

If your child attends PlayWorks after school club, they will be collected from the school hall. Any changes to PlayWorks arrangements must be communicated directly with PlayWorks, as handover takes place before dismissal.

The School Day:

As shared previously, all pupils should bring:

  • A book bag (no rucksacks please)
  • A coat (weather appropriate)
  • A named water bottle
  • A fresh fruit snack

Please ensure everything is clearly labelled.

On arrival, pupils will:

  • Place water bottles and fruit in the designated baskets
  • Put book bags in their trays
  • Hang coats on their pegs
  • Self-register and sit on the carpet ready to start the day

Break time is 10:30–11:00am, when children will eat their fruit snack. Please note that only fresh fruit is permitted, in line with Welsh Government guidance (no dried fruit or savoury snacks).

Lunch time is 12:00–1:00pm. Please ensure lunches are booked via ParentPay. Packed lunches must be nut-free, including products such as Kinder items or cereal bars containing nuts.

Milk will be provided in the afternoon. Children who prefer not to have milk will have access to water.

In the Classroom:

  • P.E. days: Tuesday and Friday
Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days.
    • Black or royal blue shorts or black joggers/leggings
    • House colour T-shirt (or a plain top in their house colour)
    • Trainers
As the weather improves, we will aim to be outdoors where possible.
  • Every other Tuesday, Miss Bailey will teach the class during PPA time, focusing on Health and Wellbeing.
  • Mrs Jones will continue to work with groups for a session, 2 afternoons a week. This will be a focus on intervention and supporting Welsh Language.
  • Our Class Page gallery will be updated regularly to share the children’s learning, experiences and special moments. Please keep checking in to see what we have been up to!

If you have chosen not to give permission for photographs, please be aware your child may not appear or may have their face covered in shared images. Photos are only shared on the class page. As a school, we no longer use X or other social media platforms. If you wish to update your preferences, please contact the school office.

Please continue to ensure all uniform and belongings are clearly labelled — it really helps us return lost items quickly.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to us at the door or contact the school office.

Kind regards,
Miss Mac and the Dosbarth Derbyn Team
